Phil Blythe CBE, FREng, CEng, FIET. Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems at Newcastle University and former Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK's Department for Transport (DfT). A strategic advisor with a strong academic background as an innovator and research leader in the area of science and transport. An ability to translate and work across sectors to deliver insight and advice at pace. Experience of working at the highest levels of Government, with (and for) research funders and with academia and industry. I work in the space between policy and technology. For example how new science, engineering and technology and help deliver policy in more effective ways and also through horizon scanning, identify new and emerging technology and consider how this can be nurtured and developed to enable new policies to be delivered (which weren't possible before). Primarily working in the areas of decarbonising transport (electrification, hydrogen and behaviour change), the energy/transport nexus, smart traffic management/vehicle automation and future mobility (particularly supporting the mobility of the older population). I am a Chartered Engineer, Vice President and Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and was elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2020. I was awarded a CBE in the 2022 New Years Honours.
